Be Courageous.

I grow more and more encouraged every week about the work God is doing in the hearts of our children at Brevard Community Church. The baptism this last weekend was a spectacular milestone in 6 kids’ spiritual journeys. I wish you could enjoy, in detail, the stories I have been blessed to hear of how these journeys have gone up to this point. I try to relate as much as I can, but there is only so much words can do.

I finally got around to seeing the movie “Courageous” this week. So much of that film resonated with me; my heart’s desire for parents in our church to have a courageous spirit in leading their kids. Of course, the movie really does highlight the role of a father as spiritual leader of the home. When asked the question, “who will lead my kids in a life of following Christ?” will your response be “I will.”?

I appreciated so much that the film pointed out specifically that when someone makes a stand and commitment to lead, there will come challenges to that commitment. Thus, the need for courage. I hope we are simultaneously humbled by and trusting in the Holy Spirit to empower us.

If you are a single mom in our church, I want to encourage you that God has given you the role of spiritual leader for your child. But you don’t have to do it alone. I desire greatly that every single mom or grandma in this church who has a man-in-training under your roof that a brother in Christ would come along side them and help you. God, may it be so!

I hope that in baptisms to come we will see more milestones to spiritual journeys going on all around us. And, I pray that many of those will be interwoven with the leadership of men in our church of those being baptized, be it their own kids or ones in the larger family of Christ. Only three months until June; let’s see what the Lord will have us do!
