No More Changes

In a recent conversation with some college students, I asked them if they could remember a time when they didn't rely on a cell phone? Their answer was no, obviously. I don't know about you but I can remember a time when information and communication wasn't at your fingertips. Remember when you would call a friend on a phone that had a cord? If your friend didn't answer, you had to wait and call back later. No texting to ask where they are at, or why didn't they answer your call.
The reality is that times have changed. Honestly things change faster than most of us can adapt too. It can become exhausting to try and keep up.

There is something however that should be a calming reality to us. There is someone who never changes, he is always home and always responds to our call. His name is God. God has always been. He was before all things and will remain forever. One of God's characteristics is that He is Immutable, meaning He never changes in his nature or attributes.  God never changes. In fact, it is impossible for God to change. The things that cause change in our life have no effect on God. Nothing in and of
Himself can increase or decrease. He has all sufficient strength, knowledge and power. God also never changes His values. In James 1:17 it says “Whatever is good and perfect comes to us from God above, who created all heaven’s lights. Unlike them, He never changes or casts shifting shadows.”

Because God is true and unchanging, it therefore makes His Word the same. We can trust God’s Word, the Bible. All things in God’s Word are true and unchanging. His Word never goes against itself. His word gives us unwavering guidance for life. Psalms 18:30 says “As for God, His way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true.”

I don’t know about you but in this time of fast-paced, ever shifting lives we live, the fact that God never changes and His promises are true gives me comfort. Many times during the week, I feel overwhelmed with life, but I can be assured that nothing in my circumstances catch God by surprise. He holds us and if we surrender all those circumstances to Him, He will guide us.

When technologies change and life continues to move faster, trust God because He never changes. Let’s try and enjoy that fact and enjoy our relationship with the One who is the same yesterday, today and forever.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever”  Hebrews 13:8
